We’re diggin’ on Detroiters who are the top dogs in the animal care industry. These entrepreneurs, innovators and educators are what make our community a top notch place to own our pups. We hope you enjoy learning about Detroit’s Dog Bosses as much as we enjoy working with them.
Fadi Qaqish is the owner of Detroit K-9 Pet Supplies, a pet store with 6 local Detroit locations. Fadi recently opened his 7th location right next door to Canine to Five Detroit! You can join the celebration of their grand opening on Saturday, February 15th, 2020, where Mayor Mike Duggan will be present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12pm. There will be treats, toy giveaways, and their entire store will be 10% off! From 11am – 3pm, Detroit Dog Rescue will also be showcasing the best rescue dogs in the D. Detroit K-9 will be paying the adoption fees for the first 10 dogs that get adopted! You can read all about this #dogboss below.
Q: When did you know you wanted to work with animals and how did you get there?
A: I moved to the US at age 21 from Jordan and saw a solid need in the community to sell dog food. In 2004, I opened my first location at 15473 Livernois. Two years later, I was able to open my second location in 2006 at 7030 Michigan Ave. After that, a new Detroit K-9 Pet Supply store was opening every 2-3 years! My 3rd location opened on the east side in 2008, at 14114 East Warren Ave, and my 4th location happened in 2012 at 18369 Fenkle. My 5th location was the first outside the city – opening in 2015 at 13983 East Nine Mile. The 6th location opened at 14777 Gratiot Ave in 2018, and this year I was able to open my 7th Detroit K-9 location in Detroit’s Midtown at 3441 Cass Ave, right next to Canine To Five Detroit!
Q: What do you like the most about working with dogs?
A: Owning a pet supplies store, I am able to make people happy by providing things they need to keep their 4-legged family members healthy, safe, and happy. I enjoy the fact that every pet is different, and I like catering to each animal’s needs.
Q: What’s the most exciting thing happening in your organization this year?
A: Of course opening in Midtown! Getting the opportunity to serve the downtown Detroit market is exciting for us. Plus, we were ale to do a total renovation of our Michigan Ave store.
Q: Favorite dog breed, and why?
A: A pitbull, because they are “no-bullshit” dogs.
Q: What’s one thing you want dog owners in Metro Detroit to know?
A: We know you have a choice in where you purchase pet supplies – and we are thankful you chose us.
