#WomanOwnedWednesday
We’re showing some love to local woman-owned businesses every Wednesday by featuring these #bossladies in our #WomanOwnedWednesday posts on social media. We’ve compiled a list below of our most recent posts! Know a woman-owned business that should be featured? Let us know via email detroit@caninetofive.com.
Mary Liz Curtin owns Leon & Lulu, Metro-Detroit’s award-winning lifestyle retail store located in Clawson. This #bosslady is passionate about independent retail and has over 35 years of hands-on experience in the gift and home industries! Curtin also writes for the Penny Pinching Retailer column, found monthly inside Giftware News Magazine, and is the author of A Shopkeeper’s Manual. You can visit her store on August 6th for her Made to Eat in Michigan: GNO farmer’s market event where artisanal food vendors will be serving up their locally made cuisines.
Justine Bennett is the #bosslady & founder of Oliver’s Beer Biscuits. This dog treat company uses spent grains from local breweries to make delicious snacks for our furry friends. You can purchase her products online at oliversbeerbiscuits.com, or in select pet stores around Metro Detroit like Cass Corridog down the street from Canine to Five Detroit, or Urbanrest Brewing Company around the block from Canine To Five – Ferndale. 10% of Justine’s profits are donated to Oliver’s Foundation, a non-profit that aids in emptying Metro Detroit’s animal shelters through education, outreach and advocacy programs.
Laura Rizzo has been playing and teaching tennis in both competitive and recreational settings for 20+ years! This #bosslady started Luv All Tennis in 2010 to make tennis fun and accessible for everyone. There are classes available for children as young as 3 years old and for skill levels up to pro. There are even classes that fuse yoga & tennis for a unique cardio work-out! You can find Laura’s classes in Huntington Woods & Royal Oak.
Bonita Cortina is the #bosslady behind Pro Pizza in South Lyon. Bonita says she had always wanted her own business, but wasn’t sure what kind to open. After seeing the success her brother had with Pro Pizza, she decided to operate her own pizza shop and has been serving customers for 23 years!
Best friends Melanie Williams and Nicole Duffey opened REGENERATION in 2007. This vintage thrift store purchases clothing and accessories from the public on select days, and allows you to leave items that you no longer want to be picked up by the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. In 2011, these#bossladies opened their second location in Clawson. You can visit their store right down the street from Canine To Five – Ferndale on Woodward!
